Tobias Tovera’s paintings occupy a world between science, art and nature. At times the artist’s paintings evoke Mother Earth, while at others, the cosmos or inner dream worlds.
Inspired by ideas of alchemy, medicine and the formation of living matter, Tovera creates his surfaces by mixing a concoction of earth-based pigments and mineral salts. The chemical reactions that result, often activated by the artist’s introduction of fire, are an array of colours and graduations of textures. Typically taking several months to evolve, the surface of the painting becomes its own landscape and record of the passage of time.

About the Artist
Tobias Tovera is an American artist working from his art studio in California, US. He was awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the California College of the Arts in 2000.
