Ewan David Eason
Printmaking & gold leaf
Ewan David Eason’s artistic vantage point on the world is from above. Looking down as if from a high altitude, Eason analyses and meticulously untangles the web of geographical information within maps. Often focussing on iconic world cities and sprawling metropolises, Eason interprets cityscapes through printmaking and gilding.
The use of gold leaf and other precious metals draw reference to the ancient world and the sacredness of civilisations. Partly art-as-documentation, Eason’s work ultimately transcends the reality of factual information to become a record within a timeless and abstract realm.
