As international art consultants, Artelier specialises in curating art for residences, including private homes and residential developments. As well as sourcing contemporary art by leading global artists, we also collaborate with artists to create custom art commissions tailored to the project.
In a recent luxury residential art project, Artelier provided end-to-end art services for a triplex Belgravia apartment. Working with a top London developer, our art consultancy oversaw each aspect of sourcing and installing bespoke artworks for the property.
Our turnkey services carefully develop the project from artwork conception to final installation. As part of this process, we offer specialist research and art commissioning, custom-made art framing, delivery and installation.
Through reviewing the project, consulting floor-plans and visiting the site, we identified key artwork locations and dimensions to best complement the space. This comprehensive approach determined the prime placement for wall art, as well as for sculptures and free-standing objects.
In response to the space and the interior design scheme, Artelier then researched, curated and commissioned a unique collection of 20 artworks.
Incorporating a range of artists and mediums, all made by leading contemporary artists, the collection worked harmoniously as a whole while featuring distinguished individual artworks.
In the reception areas, we commissioned several decorative sculptures for a room divider between the dining and living spaces. The abstract sculpture commission at the centre of the display is cast in bronze, finished with dappled blue bronze patina and hand-applied gold leaf accents.
All paintings were bespoke art commissions, and so the artists incorporated the colours of the design scheme into the artworks. In the main sitting room, for instance, the striking emerald greens of the soft furnishings and the gold finishes around the room inspired the palette of the painting, which was also finished with gold leaf. As part of Artelier's art framing consultancy, we also provided a custom-made solid brass frame with a gold coloured finish that brought together the gold elements of the space.
Each painting on the project was made-to-measure, which was a particular requirement for this luxury London development as many artworks needed to fit with existing panelling within this listed period property.
In the bedrooms, the bespoke painting commissions worked in harmony with the overall design concept. The abstracted landscapes presented a balance between the classic and the contemporary, in keeping with the style of the rooms. We conveyed the vision behind the property directly to the artists involved, including giving them samples of key colours and fabrics, so that they worked within the apartment's palette and catered to the lifestyle the developers wanted to portray.
Artelier also provided bespoke art framing for the paintings in the bedrooms, made from sustainably sourced Welsh oak. The custom wood stains on the frames were created to match the bed headboards, integrating the paintings into the space.
Certain areas, such as the central stairwell, had expansive walls; this presented the perfect opportunity for developing striking large-scale artwork commissions that accentuate the features of the space.
We commissioned a contemporary diptych, which was over 5m in height once installed in the stairwell. Visible from both the staircase and the roof terrace, the art elegantly emphasised the architecture at each level of the property.
In addition to the paintings in the sitting room and bedrooms, each artwork was further tailored to the design through our specialist framing consultancy.
Custom-designed wood stains and gold leaf finishes on every frame were matched to other finishes within the property, ensuring a coherent scheme throughout.
